We had the pleasure of seeing William Elliott Whitmore last week at The Globe in Roath, Cardiff.
It's unusual and good in Cardiff to have a night out that doesn't require a trip into the town centre, which as I've mentioned before can often be quite messy. The Globe is a great venue and it's a shame that it's arrival came at the same time as the closure of The Point. Perhaps there is a finite number of venues that Cardiff can support.
Anyway, aside from the interjections of a drunk and enthusiastic promoter, he was brilliant. Last time I saw him was in the tiny upstairs room at The Albert in Brighton, so it was great to see him in front of around 200 Cardiff keenos. His music is based in country and blues but he seems to have a massive appeal in the rockabilly and hardcore fan bases as well. Hearing his heartfelt and evocative lyrics, and seeing his genuine open and friendliness on stage, it's hard not to love him. You should look him up.
Alison took that picture, it's good isn't it.
