You may have already heard that this year's Stirling Prize 2008 has been awarded to Accordia in Cambridge.

I used to spend quite a bit of time in the 'bridge and noticed that a lot of their new buildings seemed to be of a much higher standard than everywhere (in the UK) else's new buildings, so it's nice to see that being recognised. This development also kind of reminds me of the span housing I spent my early years in in Kent, so that's a bonus too.
If I do ever buy a house, and I have to go for a new build, I can only hope it's somewhere like this! It's so reassuring to see a break from the mock-traditional red brick 'cottages' going up everywhere else.
It's also nice to see the prize being awarded to a housing development instead of some massive landmark building as has been the case in the past few years. I hope it encourages more developers to think this way and diversify their output. Although in today's financial climate I think it's a little unlikely...
