I don’t know if any one else is having trouble with this, but I’ve been having awful trouble with my Vodafone phone recently. I say recently, I’ve been having trouble with it since the day I ‘upgraded’, but even the few things it can usually do easily, like text and call people, haven’t been working properly of late. It’s been timing out, connecting back to myself during calls, and myriad other things that could have all sorts of causes. My mum pointed out that it was around the same time as the twitter tie-in. I’m not sure how that could be to blame (network capacity?), but we are both having problems and we both use twitter on our Vodafones. Anyone else?
Luckily, I’ve been sent a phone by 3 today to have a mess
around with for a bit. I haven’t opened it yet, but I know there’s a Sony Ericsson C510 in
there.
I’m not getting paid or anything, I don't get to keep the phone, and it’s going to be
rubbish carrying 2 phones round. There’s also some sort of dubious sounding ‘challenge’.
But I’ve agreed to do this, for three reasons. Firstly, I was interested to see
how this kind of buzz marketing malarkey was being done in practice. Secondly,
I’m interested in technology and planning to change handset as soon as
contractually possible. Thirdly, I thought it would be fun to try and write
about something different for a bit.
So I’m going to give this a go.
Although the 3 people have asked me to do a few things while
I have it, I’m sure a lot of my observations will be based on the experiences
I’m having with my current phone, and on the phone I’m planning to switch to
the day my current contract runs out. What that will mean in practice will
essentially be to establish if things are easier on the C510 than on my Samsung SGH-F700, and if it has any pictures of half-eaten fruit on the back.
Seeing as I only have it for two weeks, I’m probably going
to be pretty quick to judge how easy it is to set up. Much like my internet, my
phone doesn’t require me to use the manual to get advertised functions to work,
and has an interface that behaves and navigates clearly and efficiently.
My current Samsung sadly fails magnificently on both those
counts, before you even start talking about the touch screen. I think the
underlying reason for me volunteering to do this for 3 and for free is that my
handset has wound me up so much over the past 15 months and 18 days, I’m keen
to see what else is out there.
Sorry if you’re not into it. I’m going to keep doing normal
blogs too.
So here goes…
